Basil Vendryes joined the Colorado Symphony Orchestra as Principal Violist in 1993, after 11 seasons with the San Francisco Symphony, and tenures in the Rochester Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic orchestras. He is proud to anchor a fantastic section that is part of one of the great orchestras in the United States. Basil has partnered with many of his CSO colleagues in chamber music performances over the years, and has been soloist with the orchestra multiple times, most recently in November of 2013 in a performance of Berlioz’s Harold in Italy, with Douglas Boyd conducting. In 2008 Basil was featured with the orchestra in the American premiere of Giya Kanchelli’s Styx for viola, chorus and orchestra (under the baton of Jeffrey Kahane), which received critical acclaim and was repeated at the League of American Orchestras National Conference that year.
For Basil it is a privilege to be a part of the inner circle of the Colorado Symphony string section, working with distinguished colleagues and helping to shape the sound of both the viola section and the orchestra.
