When Basil is not on stage with the Colorado Symphony, you will most likely find him at the Lamont School of Music of the University of Denver, where he spends much of his time teaching talented and promising young violists. Teaching is one of his great loves and supporting the next generation of players is a job he takes very seriously. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers–most recently one of Basil’s former students joined the ranks of the Colorado Symphony viola section!
Basil currently serves on the faculties of the Lamont School of Music, the Castleman Quartet Program in Fredonia, NY, the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, Vermont and is newly appointed to the faculty of the Interharmony International Music Festival in Tuscany, Italy. Former teaching assignments include California Summer Music, Summer Music West, Green Valley and Las Vegas Music Festivals in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Montecito International Music Festival and Biola University, where he was artist in residence. Basil gives regular master classes in viola, chamber music and orchestral preparation throughout the United States.
