Basil loves to make music, especially with aspiring talent. He formed the Colorado Young Sinfonia as a means of sharing great literature for string and chamber orchestra with the best and brightest young talent in the Denver area. Now in it’s 13th season, the CYS continues to charm audiences with it’s varied repertoire and spirited playing.
Basil was the music director of the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra, and has conducted in Las Vegas and Santa Barbara, where he is on the advisory committee for the Santa Barbara Strings program. He blends enthusiasm with discipline, high standards and the goal of sharing the joy of music and music making with his players and listeners.
Soloists with his orchestras have included many principal players from the Colorado Symphony and University of Denver Lamont School of Music, including Claude Sim, Justin Bartels, Peter Cooper, Susan Cahill, Alice Rybak, Linda Wang, Richard Slavich and Ricardo Iznaola.
